Apex Lean Consulting Engagement Strategy

We believe that employee morale and engagement is the difference between good companies and great companies. Studies show that only about a third of our workforce say they are actively engaged at work. This means most of our employees are not delivering to their full capability and as a result our productivity lags. At Apex Lean, we believe that implementing these four strategies will drive employee engagement and morale to much higher levels.

Provide more autonomy

Employees perform best when they are given control of their own work. With proven practices, the employee can be driven to a much higher level of accountability and autonomy. Through simple workspace changes and involving every employee to improve quality and reduce waste, the employee feels much more valued. Giving them the freedom to think of solutions is a step in the right direction.

Develop employee skill sets

It is a universal desire to get better at the work we do. They need to provide opportunities to hone existing skills and to learn new skills through their work. This is not a function of endless training courses, but rather discussing ambitions and interests with each employee and matching them with the needs of the business. Mentoring from a more experienced colleague, or time in a different department learning a new skill, may be enough for individuals to feel they are moving forward.

Enabling a sense of purpose

To keep employees moving towards a goal, we need to provide them with an understanding of why we are taking the actions. We all want to feel that we are contributing to something that is meaningful. It is human nature. For an organization, this means sharing the vision and articulating the impact you want your business to have on the market you serve.

Improve motivation

Employee motivation is critical in driving engagement, allegiance, satisfaction and performance. We must motivate our employees because without it we encounter poor engagement, absenteeism, and retention problems. Every employee should be treated as unique and it is vital for leaders to understand what motivates each of their direct reports. Involving every employee and providing them with an understanding of the importance of their job function increases their motivational level. Motivation is essentially about treating people more like individuals. Apex Lean can provide you with the tools you need to understand how to motivate employees in your organization and guide you in implementing your new employee engagement strategy.
